Shepherd's Center

Shepherds CenterThe Shepherd’s Center program was started in 1996 to help folks in the Madison, Inglewood, Old Hickory and Goodlettsville areas.  It endeavors to provide support and services to older adults who are homebound, but are able to remain in their own surroundings with some assistance from volunteers.

Many seniors face serious health problems, hunger, financial difficulties, insecurity and the despair that comes from loneliness and isolation.  Many have to deal with the loss of their home, spouse and their sense of purpose in life. The work of The Shepherd’s Center of Madison is to fill in the gap of other services available to the elderly.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry

• Could you benefit from the confidential, one-to-one care of a Stephen Minister?
• Do you know someone else who could benefit from Stephen Ministry?
• Are you interested in possibly becoming a Stephen Minister?
• Do you have gifts of compassion?
• Are you a good listener?

The Stephen Ministry," provides congregations with the training, resources,
and ongoing support to organize and equip a team of lay caregivers--called
Stephen Ministers--in the congregation whose mission is to bring Christ's
Care to Hurting People.

Stephen Ministers are members of our congregation who provide high-quality,
confidential, Christ-centered care and support to people experiencing grief, illness,
divorce, cancer, job loss, loneliness, disability, relocation, and other life difficulties.

Stephen Minister training equips you to do an excellent job as a Stephen Minister
as well as to improve the quality of all your relationships. Topics include:

Providing Christian Care

Maintaining Boundaries

Crisis Theory and Practice

Once equipped, Stephen Ministers are prayerfully matched with people who are
going through a stressful time or life difficulty. Stephen Ministers meet with this
person once a week for about an hour to listen, care, encourage, and pray. The
Stephen Minister brings Christ's presence into the person's life and also experiences
Christ in the other person. It is truly a life-changing ministry for both the care
receiver and the Stephen Minister.
