Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

Not just a ministry but the ministry of the Church.

WHAT  is the RCIA?

The RCIA is the process within the Catholic Church for the initiation of seekers into a deeper knowledge of and relationship with God, into life in Christ, and into full participation in His Church.

WHO  do we serve?

We serve all those seeking God and a deeper life in Christ within the fullness of the Catholic faith, but especially

  • ~ those not yet baptized,
  • ~ those baptized within another Christian faith tradition,
  • ~ those baptized into the Catholic faith but desiring full participation through the remaining sacraments of initiation, and
  • ~ those Catholics who seek a deeper understanding of their faith and the teachings of the Church.

WHEN/WHERE  does the RCIA “happen”?

The RCIA is one liturgical Rite comprised of four periods and three primary rites. These periods of preparation, growth, and response to God “happen” within smaller gatherings each week. Transition from one period to the next is celebrated by the rites within the larger assembly at specified times.

HOW  is the RCIA to be experienced?

The RCIA should be experienced as a journey of faith and conversion in response to God’s love.

Our VISION is transformed lives within a transformed community, hearts on fire for the Lord as intentional followers of Jesus, professing faith in Almighty God, celebrating that faith in liturgy and in prayer, living kingdom life now, and sharing it with others.

Our MISSION, entered into through the power of the Holy Spirit, is the great commission of Matthew 28, answering the universal call “to make disciples” within the fullness of the Catholic faith tradition. We do that by

  • creating a welcoming, open environment within the context of the liturgies, prayer, and the living witness of the entire community;
  • sharing the truth of God’s revelation and His gift of Himself and the Church so as to draw all into deep relationship with Him; and
  • walking with, encouraging, and supporting all those on a journey of faith and ongoing conversion.

The clear vision of the Church for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is that responsibility of initiation rests within the parish community. Full implementation of the Rite requires a coordinated team effort and participation of the entire community.  Please contact one of the RCIA Core Team members any time for more information or to become involved:

  • Call us if you or someone you know is seeking God, wants to know more about the Christian faith, or desires to become Catholic.  We can even make the initial contact.
  •  Call us if you are a St. Joseph Parishioner with a heart/mind/soul for adult formation, spiritual friendship as a sponsor, intercessory prayer, hospitality, or childcare and would like to be part of an amazing journey of faith in a special way.
